I'm switching to myspace. It's much easier to get the photos up there, and it's just more fun.
TKDMama would love to see you. Stop by and see the Ceasons there!
I've got more baseball photos up there, plus 2008 Fargo tournament pix.
I also took a trip down memory lane and put a lot of pix of the boys when they were very young.

Enjoy!

Ryan's pitching debut

Look at that windup - the boy's all leg!
Ready to let it go
There's the pitch...

Ryan was the starting pitcher tonight. He struck out 2 batters, gave up a few hits, and walked several. He did a good job, and had a lot of fun. They are limited to 50 pitches per game, so he only pitched the one inning. The team lost, and now have a record of 3-1. Ryan struck out and walked, batting average is now .600.

Your sock, my sock
I want YOUR sock
MY sock

Riku has become known as a sock thief, so Darrin decided to give him his own socks. As the boys' socks get worn out, they become Riku's socks. We figure the instances of sock stealing has been reduced by about 50%, and it's a great way to recycle socks that are past their useful life!

Twin Cities Tournament

1st degree boys 8-10 years old
Colin's sharp form
A great low block from Colin!
View all 14 photos...
Ryan and Colin competed at the Twin Cities Tournament in April. For the first time the boys were in the same ring, due to how close they are in height. Colin did a great job. His form was sharp and his sparring was fierce. Ryan won 2nd in forms and 1st in sparring, which clinched State Champ for him in both. Darrin got to judge and had a wonderful time! Mara ran around taking a ton of pictures and cheering on everyone she knew.

It was great to see our friends from Rosemount, and cheer on our new friends from Eagan.

Next stop, World Championships!

Second Degree Recommended!

Ryan's turn to give what he got
Mr. B's speech at the end of the test

Ryan tested for his second degree recommended black belt on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. We started training at a new ATA taekwondo school, Fusion Martial Arts (in Eagan), with Matt Blomquist, on April 1st, and were glad to find that Ryan could still test for his 2BR pretty much on schedule. The black belt test was very different from the tests at Rosemount ATA, with endurance tests (Ryan did 70 round kicks in a row without putting his foot down!) and physical challenges (pushups, kicks, punches, etc) in addition to forms, weapons, sparring, and board breaks. Ryan did a great job with everything, but missed his round kick board break. Even though he knew this meant a no-change, he had a great "I'll get it next time" attitude and Mr. Blomquist gave him one more chance to break it at the end of the test. Unfortunately, he missed again.

I don't have many pix of the first test because Darrin was out of town. I have it all on video, and if I have a chance to pull pix off the video and put them here I will. Otherwise I'll just try loading them to my you tube page...

On Monday, April 21, he went to the make-up test. At the make-up test he had to do more than just break the board he misses - he had to do the entire test over again. He did a great job, and broke his boards on the first try!

He should be able to test for 2nd degree black belt decided in July or September, depending on when Mr. B thinks he's ready.

Kansas City Tournament

The judges' table
A familiar face, but he's just MISTER Kilgore outside region 114
Ryan loves to help out in a ring
View all 6 photos...
Because Ryan's 2nd degree recommended black belt test was delayed a few weeks, I decided to take him to Kansas City, MO for a class A tournament. We flew down on Friday, he competed on Saturday and we flew back up on Sunday.

We got in very early on Friday, and after Ryan swam in the pool we went to Unino Station, which is their science/children's museum. I have some photos on my cell phone, and will try to upload them soon. Ryan rode on a sky bike more times than I can count, and we had a great time. He loved the planetarium. We wanted to go to a Royals game, but they happened to be in Mpls that weekend (the Twins were in KC the next weekend).

On Saturday Ryan competed in Forms and Sparring. He did well in forms, and scored high enough for 5th place, and there were several state champs and world top ten competitors in the ring. He was also about the shortest in the ring - I think he self-sorted himself incorrectly. Not so good in sparring. He lost in the first round, and was very upset. I believe it was the first tournament besides worlds where he didn't place. All things considered, though, it was a good experience.

If I'm able to pull some TKD photos off the video I will do so.

Ryan is playing French horn in Meadowview's Fifth Grade Band. He practices a lot more than mom did, therefore he is a lot better than mom was! The first concert was a district-wide band concert with 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12th grade bands from all the schools. There were over 500 kids in the gym. Meadowview and North Trail share a band director, so they played 2 songs together. Akin Road and Farmington Elementary played 2 songs together, and then all 4 elementary schools played a song together. With 2 directors they had a rough start, but got it right the second time through. After the other bands played, all the of the kids played the Farmington school song to end the concert. It was really good!
